Coach Pitch Softball

Can my daughter really be old enough for coach pitch softball? This hardly seems feasible. But it's true. And the Mariners had their first game Monday night. They lost 9-8, but played pretty well. This is so much different than t-ball... I'm sure it's hard to grasp all the rules the first time around.

Makena had a couple of funny plays... Her first at-bat- she hit the ball really well, then stood on home, holding the bat, unsure of where to go. When she finally looked at Eric (acting as third-base coach), and she realized he was telling her to run, she was out at 1st. She didn't forget to run again after that.

And toward the very end of the game, she got the ball in left field and held on to it as the runner got a home run... Makena didn't know who to throw it to... and none of the other girls were asking for it. In t-ball, they allowed a coach on the defensive team to be in the outfield, telling the girls what to do... well- now, they don't, and apparently she couldn't think for herself on that play- even with the ENTIRE crowd shouting at her to throw the ball. :) The other team scored 4 runs on that one play. LOL She knows better for next time- you can count on that.

I just hope Eric doesn't have a coronary, trying to act as assistant coach again this year. Maybe next year, he'll switch to coaching boys as Landon starts t-ball. :-)
